Both percale and sateen bedding are made of breathable 100% cotton. However, the difference between them is the weave. A percale weave offers a light, crisp feel that is well-suited to hot sleepers. Meanwhile, a sateen weave is silky smooth and wrinkle-resistant, which makes it great for draping and those who want a luxe finish. TENCEL™ sheets are made of TENCEL™ Lyocell, which is derived from sustainably sourced wood pulp. While our SuperSoft TENCEL™ Sheets use a sateen weave, the different material and brushed finish make them extra soft and breathable.

Thread count refers to the number of threads woven into one square inch of fabric, but it’s not a straightforward measure of quality, especially across different materials. Factors like yarn thickness, weave, fibre type, and finishing process all play a big role.

For example, both our cotton sateen and TENCEL™ Lyocell bedding feature a sateen weave, but their ideal thread counts are different. Cotton relies on a higher thread count to achieve its silky-smooth feel. Meanwhile, TENCEL™ Lyocell is naturally soft, breathable, and moisture-wicking, even at lower thread counts. In fact, packing too many threads into TENCEL™ can actually reduce its airflow and performance.

In short: thread count isn’t always apples to apples. Fibre quality and finishing matter more.

Toss them in the wash on a cold, gentle cycle with similar colours before using them for the first time. If you need to, use only non-chlorine bleach. To finish, dry on low (you can also give them a quick warm iron if you want to smooth things out). That’s it—all Casper bed sheets are easy to care for and made to stay soft wash after wash.
